Benedict Softball Team Sweeps Clark Atlanta

ATLANTA – The Benedict College softball team completed a three-game sweep over Clark Atlanta with a 12-11 victory on Thursday.
 
Benedict won Wednesday's doubleheader 6-3 and 15-3. Benedict is now 9-10 overall and 4-2 in the SIAC.
 
On Thursday, Benedict trailed 8-4 heading into the sixth inning, when the Lady Tigers scored four runs in the sixth inning and four more in the top of the seventh. A single by Erika Dargan in the sixth inning and a CAU throwing error led to two runs scoring to make it 8-6. Kelsey James had an RBI single and Starkeira Daniel brought home the tying run with a fielder's choice.
 
The Lady Tigers pulled ahead in the top of the seventh on another fielder's choice by Daniel and another error by Clark Atlanta. Asia Moore hit a two-run single to center field and Kelsey James hit a sacrifice fly to score Moore to make it 12-8.
 
Benedict held off a late Clark Atlanta rally in the bottom of the seventh when Sharnitra Woods hit a three-run homer with no outs, but the Lady Tigers held on for the win.
 
Benedict swept Wednesday's doubleheader. The Lady Tigers trailed 3-2 in the first game before Torcealon Kelly hit a two-run homer to take the lead. Daniel hit a two-run homer in the seventh.
 
In the second game, the Lady Tigers jumped out to a 9-0 lead. Daniel had a two-run homer in the fourth inning to make it 15-1.
 
Benedict now travels to Jasper, Alabama to compete in the SIAC Crossover, where they will play seven conference games against the SIAC West Division teams over three days beginning Thusday, March 17.
