COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College women's tennis team took a 6-2 victory over Bluefield State on Friday at the Richland County Tennis Center. The men's tennis team, shorthanded due to injuries, fell 7-0 to Bluefield State.
Karla Flores improved to 12-1 on the season with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Tafadzwa Mawisire in the No. 1 singles flight.
Daniella Rios took a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles,
Danyelle Copeland won at No. 4 singles and
Adrienne Milow won at No. 6 singles.
Flores and
Esther Zelaya took a 9-7 victory at No. 1 doubles over Mawisire and Wendy Rudhu. Rios and Copeland claimed an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
The men's team was playing without top players
Zibusiso Ndimande and
Takudswa Muswere. The shorthanded Tigers defaulted the No. 3 doubles match and No. 6 singles match. The Tigers fell to 7-8 overall.
The tennis teams are back in action on Wednesday against USC Aiken.
