HAMPTON, Ga. – Claflin University scored seven runs in the second inning and went on to take a 9-3 victory over Benedict and knock the Lady Tigers out of the 2016 SIAC Softball Championship on Friday.
Claflin scored all seven runs in the second inning with two outs. Claflin sent 13 batters to the plate in that inning, getting seven hits and taking advantage of two Benedict errors and a wild pitch.
The Lady Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning, scoring on a wild pitch and a Claflin error. Benedict cut the lead to 7-3 in the third inning, scoring on another Claflin fielding error.
Claflin added a single run in the fifth inning and another run in the seventh.
Benedict wraps up the 2016 season with an 18-22 record.
