ATLANTA – Benedict and Tuskegee claimed the top accolades in the 2016 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) women's tennis all-conference awards, voted on by the league head coaches and sports information directors, announced on Wednesday.
Benedict's
Karla Flores was named the Player of the Year and Monica Thomas of Tuskegee was selected as the Freshman of the Year. Clark Atlanta's Keva Godfrey was voted Coach of the Year.
Flores, a sophomore from San Salvador, El Salvador posted a 15-1 overall record and an 8-0 mark in the No. 1 singles spot in conference matches this year. She lost the first match of the year with a twisted ankle but rebounded by winning 15 straight matches.
Thomas, a freshman from College Park, Ga., put together a 7-3 record for Tuskegee that featured six wins in the No. 2 singles position. She finished the year with a 7-1 record against SIAC opponents. Her last loss of the season came during the fourth match of the season, and since that time she reeled off six consecutive wins.
Godfrey helped the Panthers to a 10-11 campaign in 2016. Clark Atlanta was 10-5 in SIAC matches and advanced to last season's conference championship.

Danyelle Copeland (Benedict), DiAndrea Galloway (Clark Atlanta), Tori Pradier (Clark Atlanta), and Navilla Paul (Tuskegee).
The doubles first team includes Flores/
Esther Zelaya (Benedict), Rios/Copeland (Benedict), and Thomas/Reicia North (Tuskegee).
On the singles second team along with Thomas are Kimberly Brown (Tuskegee), Maria Hastings (Spring Hill), Madison Artigues (Spring Hill), Vivian Moultrie (Albany State), and
Esther Zelaya (Benedict).
The pairs of Pradier/Avern Gumbs (Clark Atlanta), Vonnick Boyogueno/Galloway (Clark Atlanta), and Kayla Triche/Taylor Wilson (Tuskegee) were voted on the doubles second team.
