Benedict Captures SIAC Men's Tennis Title For Second Year In A Row

JONESBORO, Ga. – The Benedict College men's tennis team captured the SIAC Championship for the second year in a row with a 6-1 victory over Morehouse College on Saturday at the Clayton County Tennis Complex.

Benedict's Nathanial Pinkney was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player and coach Gary Taylor was named Most Outstanding Coach.

Pinkney helped the Tigers capture two points on Saturday. He teamed with Quentin Eloise to win at No. doubles with an 8-5 victory over Justin Samples and Everette Reese. Pinkney defeated Reese at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-1.

The Tigers took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Juan Hernandez and Justin Payton won at No. 3 doubles with a 9-8, 7-3 victory over Jabez Beazer and Terrell Green.

Benedict won all four singles matches that were completed.

Along with Pinkney, Takudswa Muswere and Zibusiso Ndimande were named to the All-Tournament team in singles. Pinkney and Eloise and Payton and Hernandez were named All-Tournament in doubles.

The Tigers, now 16-9, earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship.
