MOBILE, Ala. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers held Spring Hill to just 27.9 percent shooting and claimed a 64-52 victory over Spring Hill College on Saturday afternoon at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
The Lady Tigers, now 10-7 overall and 6-1 in the SIAC, used a 10-1 run in the fourth quarter to pull away for the victory. Benedict led 45-43 before starting on the run that featured three baskets by Destiny Betts. Betts' final layup gave the Lady Tigers a 55-44 lead with 3:44 left to play. The Lady Badgers cut the lead to 55-50 with 2:52 on the clock, but Benedict answered with a layup by Zairra Harris and a 3-pointer by MiKeisha Moore for a 10-point lead, 60-50, with 1:39 remaining.
Simone Roberts was one of four Benedict players to score in double figures with 13 points. Betts added 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Shirvel Luke scored 11 points and Harris chipped in with 10 points.
Benedict shot 36.9 percent from the floor, but warmed up in the second half. After making just eight field goals in 40 attempts (20 percent) in the first half, Benedict converted on 16-of-25 shots (64 percent) in the second half.
Spring Hill falls to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in the SIAC.
Benedict plays at Fort Valley State next Saturday at 1 p.m.
