SALISBURY, N.C. –
Kiarra Pettway had a season-high 16 kills to help lead the Benedict College volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Livingstone College on Tuesday evening.
Benedict won the match 25-22, 16-25, 28-26, 25-12 to improve to 8-8 on the season. Livingstone falls to 3-9 overall.
Adrionna Washington had her first double-double with 11 kills and a career-high 11 digs.
Taylor Stephens had a season-high 11 kills.
Benedict used an 8-0 run in the first set to take a 20-13 lead and then had to hold off a late Livingstone rally. Stephens and Pettway closed out the set with a pair of kills. Livingstone had a 20-17 lead in the third set, but the Lady Tigers scored the next three points. The Blue Bears then scored three points in a row for a 23-21 lead. Benedict went on another three-point burst, with
Arneshia Parrish scoring two points on kills. Livingstone pulled ahead 26-25, but the Lady Tigers closed out the set with three straight points, with two kills from Pettway and another by Washington.
In the fourth set, Benedict had runs of 7-0 and 6-0 to build up a big lead and closed out the match with the final three points, getting the match winner on an ace by
Olivia Williams.
Benedict travels to Atlanta next Wednesday for a tri-match against Clark Atlanta and Oglethorpe University.
