JACKSON, Tenn. – The 14
th-ranked Benedict College Tigers shot 37 percent and suffered their first loss of the season, falling to Lane College 60-51 on Monday night in a SIAC contest.
Benedict falls to 7-1 on the season and 1-1 in the SIAC. Lane improves to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the SIAC.
The Tigers shot just 28 percent in the first half as they fell behind 30-17 at the break. Benedict had a 17-16 lead with 8:41 left in the half, but went cold and the Dragons scored the final 14 points of the half.
Benedict rallied to tie the game at 34-34 on a 3-pointer by
Jelani Watson-Gayle with 14:22 left to play, and a jumper by
Dimitri Cook tied the score at 40-40 with 10:40 on the clock. But Benedict could never regain the lead and Lane pulled ahead 53-42 with 4:48 left.
Devante Wiltshire led the Tigers with 15 points, while Cook added 13 points and
Brandon Morris scored 11 points. Kendarius Ash led the Dragons with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Benedict is back in action on Thursday, traveling to Fort Valley State for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
