Lady Tigers Fall To Barry In OT, 73-69

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers dropped their fifth straight game, falling to Barry University 73-69 in overtime on Saturday in a non-conference basketball game.

Shannon Owens scored a season-high 18 points for the Lady Tigers, who drop to 2-10 on the season. Raven Baker came off the bench to score 16 points. Andresha Smith grabbed a season-high 16 rebounds.

A pair of free throws by Owens with 57 seconds left in regulation gave the Lady Tigers a 59-57 lead. Barry tied the game on a layup with 36 seconds left. Smith scored on a layup to put Benedict ahead 61-59 with 14 seconds on the clock. The Bucs tied the game with six seconds left by Stephane Granada to send the game to overtime.

In the extra period, the Bucs broke a 65-65 tie with a 3-pointer with 2:32 remaining. A three-point play gave Barry a 73-67 lead with 27 seconds left.

Barry opened the game by scoring the first seven points of the contest, but the Lady Tigers rallied and had a 24-21 lead at the half. Benedict had as much as an eight-point lead in the third quarter, but Barry rallied to cut the lead to 41-40 heading into the final period.

Barry won its seventh straight game to improve to 9-2. Kiara Palmer led the Bucs with 15 points, 16 rebounds and nine blocked shots.

Benedict shot 33.8 percent from the floor and connected on 56 percent (14-of-25) from the free-throw line.

The Lady Tigers return to action on Monday, returning home for their first home contest since Nov. 21. Benedict will host Spring Hill College at 5:30 p.m. in a SIAC contest.
