COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers snapped a five-game losing streak, beating Spring Hill College 69-56 in a SIAC women's basketball game on Monday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Playing their first home game in almost a month, and their only home game in the month of December, the Lady Tigers got 14 points from
JaBree Jones and 13 points from
Ay'Anna Bey to improve to 3-10 overall and 3-2 in the SIAC.
Spring Hill College falls to 7-5 overall and 1-2 in the SIAC.
Benedict held the Badgers to six points in the second quarter and pulled away from a close game to build a 10-point lead, 37-27, at the half. The Lady Tigers took a 13-point lead, 40-27, early in the third period before the Badgers rallied to cut the lead to 42-40. Benedict held a 46-41 lead heading in to the final quarter.
Spring Hill never got closer than six points in the fourth quarter as the Lady Tigers sealed the game at the free-throw line. Benedict connected on 21 of their 23 free throws in the second half.
Benedict takes a break for the Christmas holiday and returns to action on Dec. 30 on the road at Kentucky State for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
