COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to Carson-Newman College on Friday afternoon at the Benedict College field.
Carson-Newman won the first game 8-2 as the Lady Tigers managed three hits and committed five errors in the contest. Carson-Newman won the second game 13-0 in five innings as Benedict had just two hits and two Carson-Newman pitchers struck out 11 of the 19 batters they faced.
Benedict falls to 2-5 on the season. Carson-Newman improved to 10-2.
Carson-Newman took a 6-0 lead in the first game after four and a half innings. Benedict got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Brianna Billie led off with a single to left field and stole second base. Billie advanced to third on a dropped fly ball and came home on a sacrifice fly by Erika Dargan. The Lady Tigers scored their other run in the sixth inning when Torcealon Kelly led off with a triple to right field. Billie hit a sacrifice fly to score Kelly.
Carson-Newman hit three home runs in the second game and scored 10 runs in the fourth inning.
Benedict is back in action on Sunday, traveling to Newberry College for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
