COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers were held to a season-low two hits as Newberry College took a 15-2 victory on Tuesday at Tiger Field in a non-conference baseball game.
The Wolves used six pitchers to combine for the two-hitter.
Benedict's two hits came on a two-run homer by
Andrew McCoy in the fifth inning, and a single by
Robert Troiano III in the sixth inning.
McCoy's homer cut the Newberry lead to 3-2, but the Wolves then scored six runs on just three hits in the top of the sixth inning for a 9-2 lead. Newberry added five more runs in the ninth inning, getting a three-run triple by Colin Santiago.
The Tigers, playing their sixth game in four days, falls to 12-6 on the year. Newberry improves to 17-12.
Benedict is back in action on Saturday, with a conference weekend series against Albany State. Saturday's doubleheader starts at noon, with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
