COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict Tigers scored five runs in the sixth inning and four more in the seventh to take a 16-8 victory over the Lincoln University Lions on Tuesday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Benedict improves to 5-2 on the season.
The Lions, now 3-7, took a 6-5 lead with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. A single by
David White Jr. and an error on the play scored two runs.
Joel Manzano brought home White with a double.
Robert Troiano III doubled to score Manzano.
Skyler Sabado singled up the middle to bring home Troiano.
Lincoln added two runs in the seventh to cut the lead to 10-8, getting the final run on a solo homer by Joshua Roberson.
Andrew McCoy led off the bottom of the seventh with a double and came home on a single by
Darian Williams.
Armando Valentin drove home Williams with a single and later came home on a wild pitch. A single by Sabado scored Troiano to make it 14-8. The Tigers tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the eighth.
White went 3-for-5 with four RBIs on the day. Troiano went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Sabado and
Reinaldo Santiago each had two RBIs.
Ricardo Pagan picked up the win, throwing seven innings, allowing five hits and five runs and striking out 11.
The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday, hosting USC-Beaufort at 2 p.m.
