CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Benedict College softball team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 7-5 victory over Johnson C. Smith in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday.
The Lady Tigers dropped the first game 10-2, but rebounded to take a 7-5 victory in the second game. Benedict also won a game that was halted on Feb. 4 and resumed Tuesday. The Lady Tigers were leading 4-1 when play was stopped on Feb. 4, and went on to take an 8-1 victory. Benedict improves to 7-14 on the season.
Benedict jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the second game, thanks to an RBI double by
Sharik Woods and a two-run single by
Tandreanna Conyers in the first inning, then a two-run single by
Khayreyah Parrish in the second inning.
Johnson C. Smith cut the lead to 5-4 with three runs in the bottom of the second. Benedict pushed across two more runs in the third when
Taylor Roberts scored on a JCSU error and
Torcealon Kelly brought Roberts home with a triple.
The Lady Tigers return to action with a three-game conference series at home this weekend against Clark Atlanta. Benedict will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. with a single game on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
