COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College softball team snapped a five-game losing skid with a pair of lopsided victories over Voorhees College on Friday afternoon at Tiger Field.
The Lady Tigers won the first contest 19-1 in five innings as Shanessa Rees pitched a one-hitter and the Lady Tigers stole 16 bases. Benedict had 16 hits, including three triples and five doubles. Benedict cruised in the second game to a 22-3 victory in five innings. The Lady Tigers pounded out 22 hits in the second contest with five doubles, four triples and a home run by Erika Dargan.
Benedict improves to 23-21 overall. Voorhees falls to 4-20.
Cherica Pye went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs in the first contest. Kelsey James went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Khayreyah Parrish and Melissa Jenkins each went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
In the second contest, Jenkins had the hot bat once again, going 4-for-4 with three RBIs. Dargan went 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Sharik Woods went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Pye also went 3-for-4 and drove in one run.
Taylor Roberts pitched a two-hitter.
Benedict will play its final home game of the season on Wednesday for Senior Day. The Lady Tigers will take on Edward Waters College in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
