COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College baseball team rallied with five runs in the final two innings to beat Morehouse College 12-8 and complete a series sweep on Sunday afternoon at Tiger Field.

Benedict improves to 17-8 overall and 7-2 in the SIAC. Morehouse falls to 5-22 overall and 2-6 in the SIAC.

Benedict broke a 4-4 tie with three runs in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Darian Williams and a two-run homer by Andrew McCoy.  Morehouse added a solo home run in the fifth, then took an 8-7 lead when three runs scored on two Benedict errors in the sixth inning. Benedict committed six errors on the day.

The Tigers tied the game at 8-8 in the bottom of the seventh on back-to-back doubles by Robert Troiano III and Dantrell Lucas.

Skyler Sabado led off the bottom of the eighth with a triple and came home on a single by Michael Garner. Garner later scored on a wild pitch and David White Jr. blasted a two-run homer over center field for the final two runs. White also had a solo homer in the first inning and went 4-for-5 with three RBIs for the day. Yancy Freeny also had a solo homer.

Morehouse took a 3-2 lead in the second inning. Benedict went back up 4-3 in the third on an RBI triple by McCoy and a sacrifice fly by Armando Valentin.

Morehouse tied the game at 4-4 in the fourth inning on a two-out error by the Tigers.

James Roman came in relief to pick up the win, shutting down the Maroon Tigers and striking out four over the final three innings.

Benedict is on the road Tuesday at UNC Pembroke before returning home for a contest Wednesday against Vorhees.
