COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers jumped out to an early lead and never trailed to take a 76-63 victory over Paine College on Monday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Ay'Anna Bey had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while
Essence Stinnette scored a season-high 16 points.
MiKeisha Moore added 12 points on four 3-pointers as the Lady Tigers improved to 5-13 on the season, 5-5 in the SIAC.
Paine fell to 0-14 overall and 0-9 in the SIAC. Keondra Archie led the Lady Lions with 16 points.
Benedict scored the first five points of the game and led by as many as 12 points in the first quarter before ending the period with a 20-9 lead. Paine was able to cut the Benedict lead to two points in the second quarter, but Bey scored a pair of layups and then closed out the first half with a 3-pointer to give Benedict a 35-28 lead at the half.
Benedict led by as much as 12 points in the third quarter and took their largest lead in the fourth quarter, 72-55, on a layup by
JaBree Jones with 2:54 left in the game.
Benedict outrebounded Paine 54-28, with Jones also grabbing 10 rebounds. The Lady Tigers had a 23-4 advantage in second-chance points.
The Lady Tigers return to action on Saturday, traveling to Clark Atlanta for a 2 p.m. contest. The next home game is Jan. 27 against Albany State at 1 p.m.
