COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Shirvel Luke hit a 3-pointer with 40 seconds left to break a tie and the Benedict College Lady Tigers took a 76-70 victory over Albany State University in a SIAC women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict improves to 6-14 overall and 6-6 in the SIAC. Albany State falls to 11-11 overall and 7-5 in the SIAC.
Luke, a 22-percent 3-point shooter, had missed four previous attempts from beyond the arc when she drilled a shot from the right corner with 40 seconds left to break a 70-70 tie. Albany State had a 70-66 lead with 1:53 left on the clock, but didn't score again as the Lady Tigers scored the final 10 points of the contest.
Albany State held as much as a 12-point lead just before the end of the third quarter.
Raven Baker hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to cut the lead to 61-52 heading to the final period. The Lady Tigers scored the first 10 points of the fourth quarter, getting 3-pointers from
MiKeisha Moore and Baker during that run.
Essence Stinnette and
Ay'Anna Bey led Benedict with 12 points each. Alexandria James led Albany State with 17 points.
The Lady Tigers are back in action Monday with a home game against Fort Valley State at 5:30 p.m.
