Tigers Set Season Highs In Win Over Miles

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Brandon Morris scored a season-high 31 points and the Benedict College Tigers set season-highs in multiple categories as the Tigers took a 116-104 victory over Miles College in a SIAC men's basketball contest in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers set season highs for points (116), field goals made (37), free throws made (34) and free throws attempted (39) in the win. Benedict improves to 14-3 overall and 7-2 in the SIAC. Miles falls to 2-10 overall and 1-4 in the SIAC.

Morris went 15-of-16 at the line, while grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out a season-high six assists. Cairo Brown added a season-high 29 points, connecting on six 3-pointers. Dimitri Cook had a season-high 26 points.

Benedict shot a sizzling 63.8 percent against the Golden Bears, their second-best shooting night of the season. Miles shot 60 percent. Sheldon Wright led the Golden Bears with 31 points.

Benedict built as much as a 14-point lead, 33-19, with 9:48 left in the first half. The Golden Bears rallied to tie the score at 39, and again later at 47, but the Tigers pulled ahead 52-49 at the half.

Miles edged ahead 55-54 early in the second half, but the Tigers scored the next nine points, with Cook and Brown scoring four points each. Another eight-point run later in the half gave Benedict a 74-61 lead with Brown hitting a 3-pointer and Morris scoring a three-point play. Another 3-pointer by Brown gave the Tigers their largest lead, 81-65, with 11:28 left to play.

The Tigers travel to face Bluefield College in Bluefield, Va., in an exhibition game on Wednesday, and return home to take on Paine College on Jan. 15.
