COLUMBIA, S.C. – Clark Atlanta University swept the Benedict College Lady Tigers 3-0 in a SIAC volleyball match on Friday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Clark Atlanta won the match 25-19, 25-15, 25-22 to improve to 8-7 overall and 8-3 in the SIAC. Benedict falls to 11-9 overall and 5-5 in the SIAC.
V'Aira Harris led the Lady Tigers with seven kills.
Adrionna Washington added six kills.
Ashleigh Reeves had 23 kills, and
Alia Gomez had a team-high nine digs.
Clark Atlanta used an 8-0 run in the first set to take an 11-4 lead. Benedict cut the lead to 13-11, but Clark Atlanta pulled away and closed out the set with a pair of kills.
The Lady Panthers dominated the second set, hitting .625 (16 kills and just one error on 24 attacks), while the Lady Tigers hit just .150, registering just six kills on 20 attacks.
Clark Atlanta used an 8-1 run in the third set for a 12-5 lead. Benedict got within a couple of points on several occasions, but never could get any closer. The Lady Panthers had a 24-18 lead, but Benedict fought back with four straight points before Clark Atlanta closed out the match with a kill.
Benedict travels to Orangeburg on Monday to take on rival Claflin. The next home match is Oct. 24 against Livingstone.
