FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers recorded a season-high 14 blocks and swept Fort Valley State 3-0 on Friday night.
Benedict won the match 25-14, 25-21, 25-15 to improve to 10-7 overall and 5-3 in the SIAC. Fort Valley State falls to 3-12 overall and 2-7 in the SIAC.
Adrionna Washington recorded 11 digs and 4 ½ blocks, while
Taylor Stephens notched four blocks.
Jasmine Wright had 3 ½ blocks.
V'Aira Harris led the team with 14 kills and a team-high nine digs, while
Kiera Brothers added 10 kills.
Ashleigh Reeves had 32 assists.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead in the first set, built the lead to 20-10 and cruised to the win. In the second set, Benedict pulled away from a close set with three straight points to take a 24-19 lead. Wright had two kills in the stretch. Harris recorded the set-winning kill. Benedict used a four-point run in the third set to build a 15-7 lead. The Lady Tigers closed out the set by scoring the final five points, getting kills from Washington, Wright and Stephens.
Benedict travels to Albany State for a conference match on Saturday at 3 p.m.
