ATLANTA – The Benedict College volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Clark Atlanta on Friday night to close out the 2018 regular season.
Clark Atlanta won the match 25-19, 25-20, 27-25 to improve to 11-9 overall and 10-5 in the SIAC. The injury-depleted Lady Tigers lost their seventh straight game and fell to 12-16 overall and 5-9 in the SIAC.
Kiera Brothers led the Lady Tigers with 14 kills.
Ka'Tia Wright had a season-high 23 assists.
Alia Gomez had a team-high nine digs.
Benedict had a 12-11 lead in the first set after a kill by Brothers. Clark Atlanta surged ahead with eight straight points. In the second set, the Lady Tigers had a 17-15 lead, but the Lady Panthers scored six of the next seven points to pull ahead. Clark Atlanta closed out the set with the final three points.
Benedict jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the third set and had an 11-5 lead before Clark Atlanta scored the next three points. The Lady Tigers led 24-21, but Clark Atlanta rallied to tie the set with three straight points. Benedict got a kill from Brothers, but the Lady Panthers closed out the set with the final three points, getting the last two on Benedict errors.
Benedict will advance to the SIAC Volleyball Championship beginning Monday in Birmingham, Ala.
