AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Benedict College women's basketball team won their third game in a row, holding Augusta to just 28.6 percent shooting to take a 69-57 victory in a non-conference game on Wednesday night.
Benedict improves to 3-1 on the young season. Augusta drops to 1-3.
Ayanna Armstead pumped in 24 points to lead the Lady Tigers, hitting three 3-pointers while also grabbing five rebounds, and recording team-highs in assists (four) and steals (five).
Ay'Anna Bey added 17 points and had a team-high eight rebounds.
Jasmine Gholson chipped in with 10 points.
After a 15-15 tie at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Tigers scored the first five points of the second quarter, then closed out the quarter with a 7-0 run to build a 34-24 lead at the half. Benedict built as much as a 16-point lead in the third quarter and held on for the victory.
Benedict shot 44.6 percent (25-of-56), while Augusta shot 28.6 percent (20-of-70).
The Lady Tigers return home for their first home game of the season on Saturday, opening SIAC play against LeMoyne-Owen College at 1 p.m.
