COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Ay'Anna Bey scored a career-high 35 points to lead the Benedict College Lady Tigers to a 95-90 victory over LeMoyne-Owen in their home opener on Saturday in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Bey also had a game-high 12 rebounds to record her third double-double of the season.
The Lady Tigers won their fourth straight game and improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the SIAC.
The 95 points marked the most points by the Lady Tigers since beating North Greenville 108-92 two years ago.
Ayanna Armstead added 13 points and
Camryn Bostick chipped in 12 points.
The game was tied 23-23 after the first quarter, and the Lady Tigers scored the final eight points of the second quarter to take a 47-41 lead at the half. Benedict built the lead to 67-57 in the third quarter, but the Lady Magicians rallied to briefly take a 68-67 lead before the Lady Tigers got a 3-pointer by Armstead and a layup by Bey to take a 72-68 lead heading to the final quarter.
Benedict led the entire fourth quarter, building as much as a 13-point lead, 92-79, after a pair of Bey free throws with 3:10 left in the game.
Dana Gettis led LeMoyne-Owen, now 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the SIAC, with 21 points, while Destinique Williams added 20 points.
Benedict returns to action on Monday with a 5:30 p.m. conference game against Lane College.
