WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Ninth-ranked Virginia Union University scored the first nine points of the game and went on to take an 81-50 victory over Benedict College on Saturday afternoon in the Red & White Classic Tournament hosted by Winston-Salem State.
The Panthers placed five players in double figures and shot 48.4 percent for the game, including 60 percent in the second half. Benedict shot 33.3 percent (20-of-60) for the game, but made just 12 percent (3-of-25) on 3-point attempts.
The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak for the Lady Tigers, who fell to 7-2. Virginia Union moves to 8-0.
Ay'Anna Bey led the Lady Tigers with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Benedict returns to action on Dec. 11 with a road game at Newberry College.
