COLUMBIA, S.C. – Kentucky State used a 9-2 run late in the first half to build a 10-point lead and went on to take an 86-76 victory over the Benedict College Tigers in a SIAC men's basketball game on Monday night.
The Tigers placed five players in double figures, led by
Jalen Shuman with 14 points.
Romello Jones added 13 points and
DeShawn Graham had 12 points.
Davante Wiltshire chipped in 11 points and
Kelvin Omojola added 10 points.
Benedict falls to 2-9 overall and 1-3 in the SIAC. Kentucky State improves to 6-7 overall and 4-3 in the SIAC.

Ricky Peterson 3-pointer cut the KSU lead to 35-32 with 4:05 left in the first half before the Thorobreds scored nine of the next 11 points and had a 44-36 lead at the half. In the second half, Benedict cut the lead to 59-53 with 11:02 left to play. Kentucky State pushed the lead back to 72-56 with a 13-3 run.
Benedict shot 38.2 percent (29-for-76), while Kentucky State shot 54.2 percent (32-for-59).
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday with a home game against Central State at 7:30 p.m.
