AUGUSTA, Ga. – Paine College went on a 10-1 run in overtime to take a 70-64 victory over the Benedict College Tigers in a SIAC men's basketball game Thursday night in the HEAL Complex.
Benedict had as much as a 17-point lead, 44-27, with 13:38 remaining in the second half. The Lions rallied to tie the game at 52-52 with 2:34 on the clock.
Cairo Brown sank two free throws with 37 seconds left to give the Tigers a 56-55 lead. Paine's Fadil Robinson hit one of two free throws with 14 seconds left to tie the contest.
In overtime, Brown sank a layup to open the scoring, but the Lions then went on a 10-1 run to take a 66-59 lead with 1:49 remaining.
Benedict falls to 19-8 overall and 9-7 in the SIAC. Paine improves to 6-20 overall and 4-14 in the SIAC.
The Tigers had five players in double figures, with
Brandon Morris scoring 12 points.
Jelani Watson-Gayle and
Rodney Prichard added 11 points each, while
Cairo Brown and
Dimitri Cook had 10 points each.
Benedict shot 35.5 percent from the floor, including just 5-of-28 (17.9 percent) from 3-point range.
The Tigers travel to Claflin on Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest.
