COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College men's tennis team picked up three wins on Friday in the SIAC Tennis Roundup.
The Tigers opened the day with a quick 5-0 victory over LeMoyne-Owen College. The midday match was a showdown with Morehouse College in a rematch of last year's SIAC Championship. Benedict, the three-time defending conference champions, took a 7-1 victory over the Maroon Tigers. In the final match of the day, Benedict cruised to an 8-0 victory over Lane College.
Against Morehouse, Benedict swept the three doubles matches for a 3-0 lead.
Quentin Eloise and
Nikola Aleksic took an 8-3 victory at No. 1.
Taj Ballantyne and
Julius Mutetwa claimed an 8-2 victory, and
Armando Flores and
Scott Perrin won a marathon 9-8 match.
In singles action, Ballantyne blanked Maurice Pugh, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Mutetwa took a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 4 and Aleksic battled hard for a 7-6 (8-6), 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles.
Benedict, now 7-6 overall and 4-1 in the SIAC, wraps up roundup action on Saturday morning with a match against Tuskegee at 9 a.m. at the Columbia Tennis Center.
