SUMTER, S.C. – The Benedict College men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches on a cold Saturday, falling to Coker College and Belmont Abbey College in the USC Sumter Invitational at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
Benedict fell to Coker 9-0, then dropped a tough 6-3 decision to Belmont Abbey College. Benedict falls to 1-3 on the season.
Against Belmont Abbey, the Crusaders jumped out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles matches.
Armando Flores held on to take a 6-0, 7-5 victory at No. 3 singles.
Julius Mutetwa won a marathon match at No. 4 singles, 4-6, 6-1, 15-13.
Taj Ballantyne went to a tiebreaker at No. 5 as well, pulling out a 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 victory.
Benedict is back in action on Monday, traveling to face Augusta University at 2 p.m.
