COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College women's and men's basketball teams take on their biggest rival on Saturday when the Claflin Panthers come to town, and the game will be played in front of the largest audience of the season.
A sell-out crowd is expected to be on hand for the games, and the games will be streamed on ESPN3 and the Watch ESPN app.
The women's game tips off at 1 p.m. and the men's game will tip off following the women at approximately 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person for adults and $15 for non-Benedict students, with ID. All Benedict students will be admitted for free with their ID, until the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena reaches its maximum capacity of 3,500.
The Benedict women will be looking to make a late-season move up the conference standings heading to the SIAC Tournament as they play their final home game of the season. The Lady Tigers are 7-7 in the SIAC (7-15 overall) and currently in fourth place in the SIAC East Division. Benedict could make a move up the standings, as Claflin is just two games ahead at 9-5 in the SIAC and 13-11 overall. Benedict also travels to Paine (0-13 in the SIAC) and finishes the season with a rematch against Claflin in Orangeburg on Feb. 17.
For the men, the Tigers are also chasing down Claflin to make a move up the league standings. Benedict is currently fourth at 10-6 (17-7 overall), and Claflin (12-4, 19-5 overall) is in third place in the conference standings. The Panthers have beaten both nationally-ranked Clark Atlanta and Morehouse in their last two games, handing both schools their only conference loss of the season.
