COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers hit six home runs, including a pair of grand slams, in a 22-2 victory over Lincoln University in the first game of a non-conference baseball doubleheader on Saturday. Benedict scored three runs in the sixth inning to win the second game 5-3 and complete the sweep.
Joseph Macaluso went 2-for-2 with five RBIs, getting a solo homer in the fifth and smashing a grand slam in the sixth.
David White Jr. went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, blasting a grand slam in the sixth inning.
Fate Young drove in four runs on two hits, getting a solo homer in the sixth.
Armando Valentin added a two-run homer and
Christopher Harper had a solo shot.
The Tigers, now 6-6 overall, scored four runs in the first inning, then added two runs in the third, five runs in the fourth, two more runs in the fifth and nine runs in the sixth.
Jacob Lagos pitched five innings, gave up three hits and struck out eight, for the mound victory.
In the second game, the Tigers broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the sixth inning. Macaluso hit a sacrifice fly to score a run and Harper smacked a two-run double.
Lincoln drops to 0-7 on the season.
Benedict travels to Myrtle Beach on Monday to take on Lancaster (Pa.) Bible College, an NCAA Division III team, at the Ripken Baseball Complex at 4:30 p.m.
