COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College softball team, the highest-scoring team in Division II last year, scored 46 runs in two games to cruise to a doubleheader sweep over Livingstone College on Monday afternoon.
Benedict won the first game 20-1 after scoring eight runs in the first inning. The Lady Tigers won the second game 26-2 after opening with another eight-run first inning. Both games were called after five innings.
In the first game,
Tandreanna Conyers had a two-run inside-the-park home run, while
Sharik Woods drove in four runs on two hits.
Khayreyah Parrish went 3-for-3 with three RBIs.Â
Amari Lawson went 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
Erika Dargan and
Torcealon Kelly also drove in three runs each.
Cherica Pye gave up just two hits, walked one and struck out four for the pitching win.
In the second game, Woods went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, smashing a two-run homer in the third inning. Kelly had a pair of hits and drove in three runs.
Taylor Roberts picked up the pitching win, scattering five hits, walking one and striking out five.
Benedict stole 17 bases in the two games. Livingstone, playing its season-opening series, committed three errors in the first game and had 12 errors in the second game.
Benedict, now 9-3 on the season, opens SIAC play this weekend against Albany State. The Lady Tigers will play a single game on Saturday at 1 p.m., with a doubleheader scheduled on Sunday at 1 p.m.
