SUMTER, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers swept a non-conference baseball doubleheader against Morris College on Friday afternoon.
The Tigers broke from a 5-5 tie with a RBI double by
Christopher Harper and the Tigers took game one 8-5. Benedict scored eight runs in the fourth inning of the second game to take a 9-4 victory. Benedict improves to 16-12 overall. Morris falls to 1-13.
Javier Santiago had a solo home run in the sixth inning of the first game.
Myles Snype had a RBI triple and drove in a pair of runs overall. The Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first two innings, but Morris came back to tie the game at 5-5 with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Harper had a RBI double for the go-ahead run and later stole home. Santiago added the insurance run in the sixth on his solo blast.
In the second game, Morris had a 3-1 lead going into the fourth inning. The Tigers got eight runs on seven hits in the fourth inning, with
David White Jr. getting a RBI double and
Fate Young,
Bradon O'Connor,
Anthony Johnson and
Joseph Macaluso all had RBI singles. Snype picked up the win on the mound, throwing five innings and giving up four hits, walking one and striking out six.
The Tigers travel to Augusta this weekend for a conference series against Paine. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. Sunday's scheduled game has been moved to Monday due to the weather forecast.
