PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The Benedict College men's tennis team won their fourth consecutive SIAC Championship with a 5-2 victory over Morehouse College on Tuesday afternoon at the Peachtree Tennis Center.
It was also the third straight year Benedict has beaten Morehouse in the title match.
The Tigers won two of the three doubles matches by 8-0 scores to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
Quentin Eloise, named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Justin Samples of Morehouse at No. 1 singles.
Nikola Aleksic had a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles and
Julius Mutetwa claimed a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles to clinch the match.
"They all came on strong," said Benedict head coach
Gary Taylor. "That makes four in a row, and that's really something and we want to continue it. We only have one junior (Eloise), and he'll be a senior next year, and the rest of the guys will be juniors and sophomores. So it puts us pretty strong for next year, and if I bring in one more, we're going to try and do five in a row."
Joining Eloise on the All-Tournament team were Aleksic, Mutetwa and
Taj Ballantyne. Taylor was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Coach.
The Tigers earned the SIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championships.
