FAIRFIELD, Ala. – Miles College rallied with six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Benedict 12-11 in the second game of a doubleheader and complete a three-game sweep over the Tigers on Saturday.
Miles won the first game 9-6 after rallying from a 6-0 deficit.
David White Jr. had a three-run homer in the third inning of the first game, giving the Tigers a 6-0 lead. Miles answered with four runs in the bottom of the third, then took the lead with three runs in the fourth and added two more runs in the fifth.
In the second game, the Tigers struck first with two runs in the first inning as
Andrew McCoy had a RBI double and
Javier Santiago drove in a run with an infield single. Miles came back with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-2 lead.
Benedict regained the lead with a four-run third inning. McCoy had a RBI single,
Joseph Macaluso had a RBI double,
Skyler Sabado had a RBI single and
Michael Garner scored on an error. McCoy hit a two-run homer in the fourth to give Benedict an 8-3 lead.
The Tigers added a run in the fifth on a RBI by
Christopher Harper for a 9-5 lead. Macaluso had a RBI single in the seventh and came home on a double by White for an 11-6 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh.
The Bears loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh on a walk, a hit batter and a bunt. A wild pitch scored one run. After another walk, Brandon Conner hit a two-out grand slam to tie the game at 11. After a double, a walk and another wild pitch, the Bears scored the winning run on a single.
McCoy went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Tigers at the plate. White went 4-for-5 with a RBI.
Benedict falls to 17-20 overall and 7-12 in the SIAC. Miles improves to 30-17 overall and 19-1 in the SIAC.
