COLUMBIA, S.C. –Benedict College hit a season-high .238 and got individual season-highs from V'Aira Harris, Kiera Brothers and Ashleigh Reeves as the Lady Tigers pulled out a hard-fought 3-2 volleyball victory over rival Allen University on Wednesday night in front of a large and energetic crowd in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.

Benedict won the match 25-18, 20-25, 25-23, 19-25, 15-9 to improve to 2-4 on the season. Allen falls to 6-6.

Harris recorded a season-high 17 kills and hit a season-high .438. She also registered 15 digs for her second double-double of the season. Brothers had 10 kills to reach double figures for the first time this season. Reeves had a season-high 36 assists and led the team with 18 digs for her third double-double of the season.

Benedict used a late four-point run in the first set to pull away from a close score and won the set on an Allen service error. Allen used a 9-1 run midway in the second set to take a 16-9 lead. Benedict rallied to take an 18-17 lead after an ace by Reeves, but Allen closed out the set by scoring seven of the final eight points.

The third set was close the entire way and was tied at 23 before the Lady Tigers closed out the set with kills from Adrionna Washington and Harris. After Allen took the fourth set, the Lady Tigers controlled the final and deciding fifth set. After Allen cut the lead to 9-8, the Lady Tigers scored the next five points for a commanding 14-8 lead. Brothers and Harris had kills, and Amber Scott served an ace during that important stretch.

The Lady Tigers are back in action on Thursday, hosting Morris College at 6:30 p.m.
