COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers served 13 service aces and hit a season-high .311 to cruise to a 3-0 victory over Morris College on Thursday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict improves to 3-4 on the season with the 25-8, 25-15, 25-12 victory. Morris falls to 0-5.
Adrionna Washington led the attack for the Lady Tigers with 11 kills, four solo blocks and two service aces.
Aaliyah Lawson had eight kills and two solo blocks.
Ka'Tia Wright had a season-high 20 assists, while
Ashleigh Reeves had 11 assists, all coming in the first set.
Alia Gomez had a team-high 12 digs.
The Lady Tigers used an 11-1 run in the first set to run away. Benedict recorded seven service aces in the first set alone, with Reeves registering four. Benedict closed out the set with the final five points, with Lawson recording a kill for the set winner.
Benedict used a 7-0 run early in the second set to take a 10-1 lead. Morris came back to cut the lead to 19-14 late in the set, but the Lady Tigers closed out the set strong, getting a pair of kills each from Washington and Lawson.
Benedict started strong in the third set again, leading 8-2 and 13-4. Morris got as close as 19-11 before the Lady Tigers scored five in a row for a 24-11 lead. An attack error gave Morris a point and the serve, but a service error closed out the match.
Benedict travels to the SIAC Crossover Tournament in Albany, Ga. Sept. 27-29 to face the seven teams from the Western Division. The next home match will be Oct. 2 against Johnson & Wales.
