COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Ay'Anna Bey scored a career-high 39 points, shooting a sizzling 16-of-18 from the floor, to help lead the Benedict College Lady Tigers to an 87-71 victory over Clark Atlanta University on Saturday afternoon in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The Lady Tigers remained unbeaten in SIAC play, improving to 13-4 overall and 8-0 in the SIAC. Clark Atlanta drops to 2-15 overall and 1-7 in the SIAC.
Clark Atlanta made 15 3-pointers, 11 in the first half, to lead or stay close for much of the contest. The Lady Panthers had a 43-35 lead at the half and opened the second half with a basket for a 10-point lead. Clark Atlanta had a 55-49 lead with 2:50 remaining in the third quarter when the Lady Tigers scored 11 straight points to close out the period for a 60-55 lead.
When Clark Atlanta cut Benedict's lead to 73-69 with 3:57 left in the game, the Lady Tigers pulled away down the stretch by scoring the next eight points for an 81-69 lead with 50 seconds remaining.
Glory Morton and
Ayanna Armstead added 10 points each for the Lady Tigers. Bey pulled down a game-high 18 rebounds for her 10
th double-double of the season.
The Lady Tigers are back in action next Saturday, traveling to take on Paine College in Augusta, Ga., at 1 p.m. The next home game is Saturday, Jan. 26, against Albany State.
