FAIRFIELD, Ala. –
Ayanna Armstead and
Ay'Anna Bey each scored 18 points to keep the Benedict College Lady Tigers undefeated in conference play with a 73-58 victory over Miles College on Monday night.
Benedict improves to 12-4 overall and 7-0 in the SIAC. Miles lost its first SIAC game of the season and falls to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the SIAC.
The Lady Tigers used a 10-0 run in the first quarter to take a 13-8 lead and never trailed again. Benedict had as much as a 13-point lead early in the second quarter and had a 42-30 lead at the half. The lead grew to as much as 17 points, 51-34, after a jumper by
Jasmine Gholson in the third quarter before the Lady Golden Bears cut the lead to 53-45 heading into the fourth quarter. A 3-pointer by Armstead gave the Lady Tigers their largest lead, 70-51, with 3:28 left in the game.
Mahogany Randall scored a season-high 16 points. Gholson added 10 points.
Benedict held Miles to 29 percent shooting (18-of-62), while connecting on 48.9 percent (23-of-47) from the floor. The Lady Tigers also had a 48-37 advantage in rebounding. Bey led the Lady Tigers with 10 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season.
Benedict returns home to take on Clark Atlanta at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
