Benedict Travels To Take On Morehouse In Search Of Victory

ATLANTA – The Benedict College Tigers and Morehouse Maroon Tigers renew their football rivalry on Saturday, with Benedict still searching for its first win of the season.

Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. from Morehouse's B.T. Harvey Stadium. Live stats are available here. The Morehouse radio broadcast is available here. There is no video stream available.

The Tigers and Maroon Tigers have played close games in recent memory. Each of the last three games has been decided by four points or less. The last time Benedict visited Atlanta in 2017, the Tigers won on a 43-yard field goal in the second overtime. Morehouse won last year's game 14-10 in Columbia on a pair of special teams touchdowns.

"It's always an exciting game when we play them," said Benedict head coach Mike White. "Probably the last four years we've played them it has always gone down to the fourth quarter. I expect the same thing."

Morehouse (2-5 overall, 0-3 in the SIAC) will be looking to snap a two-game losing streak in front of their Homecoming crowd. Benedict (0-6 overall, 0-3 SIAC) is looking for its first win after losing four of their six games by a touchdown or less.

White expects the Maroon Tigers to be another tough challenge for Benedict. Morehouse is averaging more than 307 yards of total offense per game. The Benedict defense ranks third in the SIAC and 32nd nationally, and White is counting on the Tigers to slow down Morehouse to give the Tigers a chance for a victory.

"They are one of the better offenses in the conference, with two good runners," White said. "They have a good quarterback and a lot of weapons. Again, it will be a tough challenge for us to get those guys stopped and force our will on them."

The Tigers will be looking to do a better job on the offensive side against the Maroon Tigers. Benedict ranks last among the 166 Division II football teams in total offense per game, averaging 200 yards per game. White said the key will be playing well from the start of the game. Freshman quarterback Eric Phoenix will make his third consecutive start against the Maroon Tigers.

"It is important for us to get off to a good start and not make those early mistakes," White said. "We need to try to establish a run game and establish ourselves in the short passing game and get off to a good start, and see if we can help our young quarterback."
