COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers defeated Claflin University 3-0 on Monday night in a non-conference volleyball match to stretch their winning streak to four.
Benedict won the match 25-21, 25-11, 26-24 improving to 15-10 overall. Claflin drops to 6-13.
Kayla Stephens led Benedict with 14 kills and five digs. V'Aira Harris added 12 kills, and Daija Walton contributed with seven kills and four blocks.
The first set went back and forth until the Lady Tigers went on a 6-2 run to close out the set. In the second set, Benedict jumped out to an early lead capped off by a service ace by Walton. A kill by Stephens would secure the set for the Lady Tigers.
In the third set, Benedict found themselves down 22-19. The Lady Tigers would proceed to go on a 6-2 run to close out the set and clinch the match. Stephens had three kills during a crucial 4-0 run that gave the Lady Tigers a 23-22 lead. Claflin tied the match at 24-24, but Benedict got the final two points from Claflin attack errors.
Benedict will travel to Clark Atlanta University on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
