COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers return home still searching for their first win of the season and will aim for that elusive first win against the winless Clark Atlanta Panthers.
Kickoff from Charlie W. Johnson Stadium is 2 p.m. The game will be video streamed
here (Free to view in low quality, $8 to watch in HD). The game is designated as Take A Kid To The Game Day, and all youths 17 and under will be admitted free. The Tigers will also recognize 17 football seniors, as well as cheerleading and band seniors.
Benedict is 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the SIAC. The Tigers have struggled on the offensive side of the ball this season, averaging 210 yards per game on offense, which ranks 164
th out of 166 teams in Division II. Benedict is averaging 16.9 points per game, which ranks last in the SIAC.
Clark Atlanta, 0-8 overall and 0-4 in the SIAC, has had the opposite struggles. The Panthers rank second in the SIAC in passing offense, averaging 261 yards per game through the air.
"Clark has one of the best passing offenses that we've faced," said Benedict head coach
Mike White. "We'll have our hands full with them throwing the ball. It's going to take an A plus effort in our pass defense to hold them down.
"I think we've got to be able to run the ball and keep the ball away from that passing offense and see if we can put some points on the board early. Those are going to be some of the keys of the game."
However, Clark Atlanta ranks last in the nation in rushing offense, averaging just 21 yards per game. On the defensive side, the Panthers are giving up an average of more than 382 yards per game.
"It seems like they've had some issues defensively," White said.
Benedict is hoping to take advantage of those issues and put together their best offensive effort of the season.
"I hope offensively we can run the ball, and complete some passes and get off to a good start," White said. "I've been saying the same thing for weeks. I just hope that's the key that gets us off to a great start. I know they've been struggling, like we've been struggling. I think whoever gets on the board quick and gets the momentum on their side will be huge."
During halftime, Benedict will honor 17 football seniors: Defensive back
Traviontae Brown; wide receiver
Drelon Freeman; quarterback
Phillip Brown; defensive back
Robert Cummings; wide receiver
Danye Washington; running back
Trini Charlton; running back
Raheem Jennings; defensive back Mathew Anthony; linebacker

Elroy Maloyd; offensive lineman
Brian McNeil; wide receiver
Wayne Brown; wide receiver
Myquerris McGrier; wide receiver
Cleatus Hopkins; defensive lineman

"This group is a special group because of how long they've been with the program," White said. "I'm proud of all of them. Most of them are going to graduate this year, if not next year. I'm just proud of the group. I can't say enough about the secondary. Again, it's just been a great ride to see those guys kind of mature and get ready to graduate and go on and make it happen for themselves."
