COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers basketball team defeated Palm Beach Atlantic University 81-44 on Friday night.
Benedict improves to 3-1. Palm Beach Atlantic University falls to 1-3.
Ay'Anna Bey led the Lady Tigers with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
Shanassia White added 16 points and 11 rebounds, while
Mahogany Randall contributed with 13 points, four assists and four rebounds.
After the score was all tied up at 14 at the end of the first quarter, Benedict went on a 7-0 run to start the second quarter, capped off by a pair of free throws from
Wykira Johnson-Kelly. Benedict would take a 12-point lead, 32-20, heading into halftime.
The Lady Tigers outscored the Sailfish 25-8 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 31 points heading into the fourth quarter. Bey would score 10 of her 21 points in the fourth quarter to help Benedict break away from Palm Beach Atlantic and clinch the victory.
Benedict held Palm Beach Atlantic to just 23.3 percent (14-for-60) from the floor, including 5-for-26 (19.2 percent) from 3-point range. The Lady Tigers shot 42.1 percent and made 11 3-pointers.
Benedict's bench outscored Palm Beach Atlantic 32-6, while the Lady Tigers beat out the Sailfish 24-14 in the paint.
Benedict will host Lynn University on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. in HRC Arena.
