COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers defeated Lynn College 65-53 on Wednesday night.
The Lady Tigers improve to 4-1, while the Fighting Knights fall to 2-3 overall.
Wykira Johnson-Kelly led the Lady Tigers with 20 points. Shanassia White added 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Ay'Anna Bey contributed with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Benedict struggled to score early falling behind 7-0 six minutes into the first quarter. The Lady Tigers would settle down as they outscored the Fighting Knights 11-2 in the final four minutes of the first quarter to take an 11-9 lead.
In the second quarter, neither team could extend their lead by more than five. Johnson led the Lady Tigers with 10 of her 20 points coming in the second quarter. Benedict would take a 30-26 lead into the half.
The Lady Tigers would go on an 11-3 run to begin the third quarter, giving them a 41-29 lead. Benedict would take a 50-39 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Lady Tigers would hold a double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Benedict outscored the Fighting Knights 15-4 in 2nd chance points helping to lead to victory.
Benedict will host Augusta University on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the HRC Arena.
