COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers fell to Augusta University 85-71 on Tuesday night.
Benedict drops to 2-3, while Augusta University improves to 3-2.
Aboubacar Camara led the Tigers with 19 points and nine rebounds.
Deon Joyner added 17 points and six rebounds, while
Tajh Green contributed with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Benedict found themselves trailing early, down 11-4 with 14:40 left in the first half. The Tigers would fight back and make it a one-point game, 20-19, on a free throw from Green with 6:49 remaining. Augusta would go on a 15-5 run to close out the first half and take a 38-27 lead heading into halftime.
With 12:34 remaining in the second half, the Tigers were trailing the Jaguars 56-42. Benedict would cut the lead in half over the next four minutes, trailing 58-51. A free throw by Green made it 69-62 with 4:14 remaining, but that would be as close as the Tigers would get. Augusta hit a 3-pointer and outscored the Tigers 16-9 over the final four minutes.
Camara exploded for 16 points and five rebounds in the second half to keep Benedict within striking distance. This would not be enough as the Tigers could not find any momentum to overtake the Jaguars.
Benedict will host Miles College on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the HRC Arena.
