MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Benedict College men's basketball team fell to Rollins College 60-50 on Saturday at the South Region Tip-Off Challenge.
Benedict falls to 1-1 and Rollins improves to 2-0.
Deon Joyner and Romello Jones led the Tigers with 10 points each, while Tajh Green contributed with eight points and eight rebounds.
With 7:49 remaining in the first half, Benedict trailed 19-17. Rollins College would go on a 19-4 run to close out the half and take a commanding 36-21 lead.
The Tigers trailed the Tars 49-34Â eight minutes into the second half. Benedict would go on a 14-3 run to close the gap to four, 52-48, with two minutes left in regulation after a free throw by Joseph Staton. That was as close as the Tigers would get in the second half.
Rollins outscored Benedict 21-8 in fast break points, which ended up being the difference in the game.
Benedict will host the University of West Georgia on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for their home opener.
