BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers basketball team rolled to an 81-66 victory against Lynn University on Saturday in the SIAC/SSC Challenge.
Benedict improves to 2-0 on the season and Lynn drops to 1-1.
Wykira Johnson-Kelly erupted for the Lady Tigers, scoring 29 points and adding five rebounds and four assists. Ay'Anna Bey added 13 points and five rebounds, while Amaya Ashby contributed with 13 points and six rebounds.
Benedict jumped out to an early 25-9 lead, as Bey scored eight points. The Lady Tigers would extend their lead to as much as 21 in the second quarter, but the Fighting Knights rallied and went on a 17-5 run to close out the first half and close the gap to nine, 37-28.
The third quarter saw a back and forth affair as neither team could gain any momentum. With five minutes left in the fourth quarter, Benedict held a 65-58 lead. The Lady Tigers outscored the Fighting Knights 16-8 in the final five minutes of play to secure the victory.
Benedict's bench performed well for a second straight game, outscoring Lynn 56-12. The Lady Tigers led in fast break points 26-12 as well.
Benedict will host Newberry College on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in their home opener.
