WILBERFORCE, Ohio –
Ayanna Armstead hit seven 3-pointers and scored 21 points in her season debut as the Benedict College Lady Tigers defeated Central State 83-63 in a SIAC women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon.
Ay'Anna Bey added a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds.
The Lady Tigers improve to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the SIAC. Central State falls to 2-9 overall and 0-3 in the SIAC.
Central State had a 14-9 lead in the first quarter before Benedict closed out the quarter with an 11-2 run, highlighted by a pair of 3-pointers from Armstead, to take a 20-16 lead.
The Lady Tigers closed out the second quarter with another strong run. The Lady Marauders had a 26-25 lead with 2:29 left in the half before Benedict went on a 10-3 run to close out the first half. Armstead hit a 3-pointer with two seconds left in the half to give Benedict a 35-29 lead.
Back-to-back 3-pointers by Bey to open the third quarter gave Benedict a 41-31 lead. The Lady Tigers pushed the lead to as much as 17 points, 58-41, with 18 seconds left in the quarter.

Mahogany Randall gave the Lady Tigers their largest lead, 72-48, with 5:02 left in the game. The Lady Tigers connected on 15 total 3-pointers in the game.
The Lady Tigers continue their road trip with a conference game at Kentucky State on Monday night.
