FRANKFORT, Ky. – Benedict College held Kentucky State to just four points in the second quarter and rolled to a 73-45 victory in a SIAC women's basketball game on Monday night.
Ay'Anna Bey and
Wykira Johnson-Kelly scored 15 points each to lead the Lady Tigers.
Shanassia White added 13 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds.
Benedict improves to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in the SIAC. Kentucky State falls to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in the SAIC.
The Lady Tigers broke away from a 10-10 tie with a 7-0 run in the first quarter, then had a 19-15 lead at the end of the quarter. Benedict went on a 9-0 run in the second quarter to begin to pull away and had a 30-19 advantage at the halftime break. The Lady Tigers continued to widen the gap in the third quarter, building as much as a 26-point lead. A 3-pointer by Johnson-Kelly early in the fourth quarter gave Benedict its largest lead, 62-31.
Benedict shot 36.8 percent (21-of-57), while holding Kentucky State to 31.8 percent (14-of-44). Benedict had a dominating 47-31 rebounding advantage.
The Lady Tigers return to action on Thursday with a home game against Limestone College at 2 p.m.
