COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Ay'Anna Bey scored 34 points and grabbed a season-high 21 rebounds as the Benedict College Lady Tigers remained unbeaten in conference play with a 76-62 victory over Paine College on Saturday afternoon in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict improved to 17-5 overall and 12-0 in the SIAC. Paine falls to 1-18 overall and 1-10 in the SIAC.
Benedict got off to a slow start, scoring just four points in the first quarter and trailing 17-4 after the first period. The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Lions 29-7 in the second quarter as Bey heated up and scored 19 points in the second period. Benedict went on a 20-3 run to erase an 11-point deficit (19-8) to take the lead and never gave it up. The Lady Tigers had a 33-24 lead at the half and grew the lead to as much as 17 points in the third quarter. Benedict reached a 17-point lead on three occasions in the fourth quarter.
Ayanna Armstead added 11 points, while
Jasmine Gholson also added 11 points, hitting three 3-pointers.
Benedict had a dominating 53-29 rebounding advantage and outscored Paine 24-3 on second-chance points.
Benedict is back in action next Saturday with a home game against Albany State at 1 p.m.
